Howard Roberts Project Goes Live in January

After more than two years of filming, recording and relentless research, the fascinating and engaging story of the late jazz guitarist and recording session-great Howard Roberts will be available on CD, DVD and on-line at www.howardrobertsproject.com

In addition, more than thirty of the famous guitarist’s colleagues, close friends and family will gather for a live celebration and tribute at the Anaheim Plaza Hotel Celebrity Ballroom the night of January 22, 2015 at 7 p.m.

The star-studded Howard Roberts Celebrity Guitar Summit is scheduled to kickoff the NAMM show, the music business’s most important and best attended annual event; one that attracts industry professionals from all over the world.

Roberts’ son, Jay, spent years gathering first-person stories from the great artist’s family members, friends, music historians and virtually all of his professional peers. Jay has uncovered and collected stories and photographs from the guitarist’s previously little-known but vibrantly important history in addition to dozens of humorous anecdotes and recording session recollections about his famous father. Roberts says, “This project has revealed so many wonderful things and significant details about my dad. I found a strong consensus that H.R. was not just Hollywood’s favorite session guitarist, but that players all over the country eagerly awaited his next album. This documentary illuminates his influence on so many careers.”

Howard Roberts was revered as one of the most frequently heard and recorded guitarists in history. His list of television, film and recording credits was virtually limitless. A short list of the television shows Roberts created music for include The Twilight Zone, Green Acres, The Munsters, The Andy Griffith Show and Batman. He also recorded with The Beach Boys, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, The Monkees, Ray Charles, Sarah Vaughn and so many more. And just a few of his film credits include The Sandpiper, Cool Hand Luke, Dirty Harry and Camelot.

The event is sponsored by Gibson Guitars, Quilter Amps and QSC Pro Audio. We’re thrilled that many of the world’s greatest names in the music business will be paying tribute to Howard. Those attending include Ernie Watts, Russell Ferrante, Chuck Berghofer, Ralph Humphrey, Howard Alden, Mitch Holder, Tim May, Mike Anthony and several other surprise guests. We’re also proud that our event will raise funds to help launch the Howard Roberts Scholarship Fund that will aid financially challenged students to help prepare them for careers in the music business.

In addition, the Howard Roberts Website will offer over thirty hours of interview footage with such music luminaries as Lee Ritenour, Carol Kaye, Bob Bain, Ernie Watts and many of Howard’s closest friends - all free of charge. It will be an extraordinary resource for educators, students and fans to avail themselves of the knowledge and insight presented by dozens of the music industry’s most revered and respected professionals. Moreover, it will illuminate the historic Hollywood studio music scene of the 1950s, 60s and 70s and chronicle that scene right up to the present day. More important it will showcase many of Howard Roberts’ groundbreaking educational, innovative and ingenious teaching techniques that he employed at his avant-garde Guitar Institute of Technology.
